A collaboration between the Danish photo journal Filter, Norwegian Objektiv and Finnish Photo Raw Magazine, the joint special issue nordic now!, showcases the most intriguing contemporary photography from the Nordic countries.

Based on a seminar that took place during Copenhagen Photo Festival 2012, the publication brings together photographers, critics, and researchers from Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark to present their views and thoughts on contemporary Nordic photography. It is centered around five tendencies picked out by the editors as governing Nordic photography at present: private and fantastic photography, hybrids between photography and other media, the return to analogue techniques, and the immense changes that the genre of documentary is undergoing, reaching out to or mixing with other genres and other media, questioning and pushing the borders of what may be defined as documentary.

The special issue includes texts by Anna Tellgren from Moderna Museet in Stockholm and Mette Sandbye, senior lecturer at the Department of Arts & Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen, to name a few, and interviews with people from various institutions of photography, like Timothy Persons, Gallery TAIK’s curator and founder of what has become known as the Helsinki School, Nils Vik from the Norwegian newspaper DN and Maria Karen Sigurdardottir from The Reykjavík Museum of Photography.

Furthermore, the issue will present work from both renowned and emerging Nordic photographers, such as JH Engström, Astrid Kruse Jensen, Marie Sjøvold, Nelli Palomäki, Ditte Haarløv Johnsen, Petúr Thomsen, and Eline Mugaas.
